CHURCH LIFE

Mission

Sharing the good news of Jesus with Bristol and beyond.

Our vision as a church is to see people in Bristol, and across the world, know God in His holiness, love, justice, mercy and power.
We want to do this by coupling gospel proclamation and discipleship with practically caring for the broken and hurting in our city and further afield.

Loving our city

LOCAL MISSION

Bristol is a city full of beauty and diversity, and yet we are aware that it can also be a place of darkness and injustice. Jesus came to bring light to the darkness, to proclaim good news to the poor, to bind up the broken-hearted and to set the oppressed free. In fact, throughout the Bible, God reveals that He cares deeply about justice and for those on the fringes of society.

As a church we want to reflect God’s heart and to be His light in this city. We want to do this by being a church family that welcomes people, regardless of their background or circumstances, and by being individuals who act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God as our lives are transformed by knowing Him. We seek to do this by coming to God in prayer for our city and by practically coming alongside those who are hurting and vulnerable.

GLOBAL MISSION

To the ends of the earth…

Sharing the good news of Jesus with others is at the heart of what we do as a church, as we long for those who don’t know God to be reconciled to him. In the UK we are incredibly blessed to have the Bible in our language, to be able to freely meet in community to worship God and to share the gospel without fear. Sadly, this is not the case elsewhere around the world. There are places where people are persecuted for their faith, where sharing the good news of Jesus is a criminal offence and where becoming a follower of Jesus leads to ostracization from family and friends.

As a church we want to partner with individuals and mission organisations seeking to bring the good news of Jesus to the ends of the earth, particularly those who are currently unable to access the Bible in their heart language, those who would be otherwise unable to hear about Jesus and those who have limited numbers of Christians in their communities. We long for the time when people from all nations will worship God together. This vision is possible through prayers and through our partnership with sending agencies such as BMS World Mission and Africa Inland Missions (AIM).

Our mission partners

PRAY

Prayer is central to all that we do here at Broadmead Baptist Church, as we recognise that we can’t do anything in our own strength. Instead, we know there is power in bringing our joys, laments and requests to God both in community and as individuals. We encourage you to spend time regularly praying in small groups and individually for both our city and our world. You can also join us at our monthly prayer meetings.

GIVE

As Christians we’re aware that we are recipients of God’s incredible generosity and grace as He paid the price for our sin so that we could be welcomed into relationship with Him. Not only that, but everything we have is a gift from God – whether that be our time, energy or finances. In response, we want to be a church family that are radically generous with all the wonderful things God has blessed us with. We would love to encourage you to prayerfully consider how you can be giving financially to the work of sharing the good news of Jesus both in Bristol and beyond.

ACT

We don’t want to be a church that just talks about God’s heart for justice, we want to be excited to partner with God in His mission. We would love to encourage everyone attending Broadmead to prayerfully consider how they could be involved in sharing the good news of Jesus and walking alongside those who are victims of injustice. If you want some ideas take a look at some of the great organisations listed above that work to advocate for different areas of injustice in the city.
